Top 9 Movies Of 2008

I forgot to make a Best Movies of 2008 list at the end of 2008. I’ve been on lots of medication, so I forget lots of stuff. It’s April now, and I still haven’t seen any of the movies that were nominated for Best Picture. Slumdog Millionaire comes out today, but I don’t feel like watching it. I hate feel good movies, even if they are directed by Danny Boyle, unless those feel good movies are called Alabama Jones and the Busty Crusade. Here is my list, with explanations:

9. Iron Man—Robert Downey Jr. is the best actor working today. I enjoyed Iron Man, but mainly for his performance. If anyone else played the part, this movie wouldn’t be on my list.

8. Burn After Reading—A lesser Coen Brothers work, but still a great movie. I love George Clooney’s performance and the awesome chair he builds.

7. Quantum of Solace—Not as good as Casino Royale, but it didn’t have to be. It’s best when viewed as the third act in one really long movie rather than a sequel. The action and stunts are great. Daniel Craig is the best Bond.

6. Appaloosa—I really liked this Western. The violence is quick and harsh. The dialogue is witty and funny. The scenery is amazing, especially on BluRay.

5. The Dark Knight—It’s a shame that Christopher Nolan didn’t win a Best Director Oscar for the Batman sequel. The IMAX shots, especially during the action sequences, are unparalleled. Heath Ledger’s performance is iconic. Sure, this movie is a bit long and has some problems, but it’s damn entertaining.

4. Rambo—John Rambo returns, this time to fight the oppressive Myanmar soldiers in Burma. It features tons of violence and great one-liners. A fun, family film.

3. Tropic Thunder—Easily the funniest movie of the year. I’ll be quoting this film for years. Great stuff.

2. Body of Lies—Ridley Scott makes a topical, extremely entertaining action movie that nobody sees. It features one of Leonardo DiCaprio’s best performances as well as a pretty fine performance by Russell Crowe. The action sequences are amazing and the ending is intense.

1. In Bruges—Not just my favorite film of 2008, but one of my favorite films of the decade. The script is perfect. The acting is superb. If you haven’t seen it, don’t. It’ll remain an undiscovered gem.

I'm planning on watching Body of Lies soon. Rambo surviving a blast from an old nuclear bomb kind of killed that movie for me. That, and the walk of shame that young boy had to do in the moonlight. Oh, and Dexter's annoying girlfriend who can't act. I liked Appaloosa. I should watch that again. Even if it does have Renee "chipmunk cheeks" Zellweger in it. Batman was cool in IMAX. I'm glad I watched it that way. In Bruges has the best quote ever, but I can't remember it, so I won't quote it exactly but it's the one about if he was retarded he'd like it, but he's not so he doesn't. Good stuff. Tropic Thunder killed me. Another fine Robert Downey Jr. performance. And what do you mean, you people?

I have that quote from In Bruges on my Facebook page. Are there any movies you really liked that didn't make my list?

You mean other than 'Chocolate Chicks on Cracker Dicks' and 'MILF Worship 6'?

(Yes, I had to look up porn titles from 2008)

I want to see In Bruges. If I watch it, I won't tell you.

Also, I liked Wall-E, but most of the movies I get to see are for kids, so my standards aren't very high.

I haven't seen Wall-E yet. I like the Pixar films and enjoy Sci-Fi movies, so I should check it out.
